I work with found objects as well as metal, wood, ceramics and other 3D objects to create mixed media sculptures. I also work with traditional paints and even digital drawing.
Did you ever look at clouds and find animals and faces? Did you ever see a shadow out of the corner of your eye or see something moving among the shadows late at night? Did you ever take a walk through a wooded path and feel like someone was watching you?
These are all examples of the unconscious mind reacting to external stimuli.
I remember as a child, laying in bed looking up at my stucco ceiling and seeing amazing and fantastical things forming in the random textures. The work I do comes from this same place. It is a wonderful and terrible place simultaneously. The mind is always dreaming somewhere beneath itself. I think some how it is working on much bigger problems while we unknowingly carry on our daily dramas.
Sometimes it is hard to commune with this subconscious place, and other times it is as simple as finding a piece of driftwood or seeing a cluster of trees in a shadowy grove. To me it all seems to be some kind hidden wisdom trying to be remembered
