I made this propane forge from a propane cylinder. (FYI THey still have gas in them when you get them from the junk yard!) I had to shoot this can with a .270 rifle because I was to afraid to start cutting it with the grinder. I could see the gas vapor dumping out of it after I shot it. I would recommend getting a different kind of cylinder and skip that step all together.
Once the scary part was over it was easy to cut out the bottom for a door
I added a hinge I found in a junk drawer and attached it with self tapping screws
Once I cut the burner hole and bolted on some hardware I added a fire brick and a little high temp paint. I put a bunch of screws in the door facing in to help hold the ceramic wool later.
I don't have any pictures of the ceramic wool being installed but I used 2 layers of one inch wool around the inside and on the door. I then shaved the excess off with a utility knife. When that was done I made a slurry out of Cheap unscented cat litter and water to paint the wood and give it a shell to hold the fibers in place.
The spring holding the door shut ended up melting pretty quick but I should have known that would happen. It was no big deal though.
